Uba Sani Sacks Prof Bello, Appoints Maiyaki Commissioner For Information

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani has relieved Professor Muhammad Sani Bello of his position as Commissioner for Information and appointed Alhaji Ahmed Maiyaki.

Until his appointment, Maiyaki was the managing director of the Kaduna State Media Corporation (KSMC) and erstwhile director general, media and publicity to former governor Ramalan Yero from 2012 to 2015. He also served as senior special assistant to former governor Ahmed El-rufai.

In a statement issued today by the chief press secretary, Malam Ibraheem Musa, the governor did not give reasons for sacking Bello who was his campaign director general in the 2023 election.

The statement wished Bello success in his future endeavours, acknowledging the former Commissioner’s services as the pioneer Commissioner for Education in the Governor Uba Sani Administration and Commissioner of Information.

However, contrary to being relieved of his appointment, a letter has surfaced indicating that Bello actually resigned from the state executive council voluntarily today.

“With reference to letter number GH/KD/S/171 dated 27th July 2023, appointing me as Commissioner and Member of the Kaduna State Executive Council, I wish to notify you of my decision to voluntarily resign with immediate effect”, a letter signed by Bello and addressed to secretary to the state government (SSG) read in part.

After Bello was moved few weeks ago from education to the newly reestablished information ministry as Commissioner, there were rumours that he was not happy. This adversely affected his relationship with the governor, sources alleged.

A former university lecturer and head of department of accounting at the Kaduna State University, Bello contested for governorship under PDP in 2019 but lost to Isa Ashiru before returning to the APC.
