NDLEA Operative Allegedly Kills Passerby in Kaduna, Sparks Protest

Calm has been restored after a young man was allegedly shot dead by an operative of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kaduna’s Barnawa community, on Monday evening, triggering angry protests.

Witnesses said the victim, described by residents as a “quiet and hardworking” local, was hit near the busy Barnawa Market while NDLEA operatives chased a suspected drug dealer in an unmarked vehicle.

“He was a passerby hit by a stray bullet. He was innocent,” an eyewitness told Kadunanews24.

The killing led to youths barricading the double lane  Aliyu Makama road, burning tyres, and forcing businesses, bars, and eateries to shut down. Traffic was disrupted for hours as tension gripped the area.

Kaduna Police spokesperson DSP Mansir Hassan confirmed the incident, saying the Commissioner of Police had ordered “a full-scale investigation” while police patrols were deployed to restore calm.

Barnawa is a highbrow area in Kaduna South local government area sperated from the city centre by the   Kaduna river.
