Former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Kaduna State, Amb. Dr. Polycarp Gankon, has called for special recognition of the Boys Brigade in the country’s recruitment process into the armed forces and paramilitary services.

Gankon made the appeal during the 65th Independence Anniversary parade organised by the Kudansa Battalion Council of the Boys Brigade at Mararaban Rido, Chikun Local Government Area. He said members of the Brigade, with their regimental training, discipline and patriotism, are well positioned to take up responsibilities in the service of the nation.

As the special guest, he noted that the country is in need of young people who are ready to defend its sovereignty, and the Boys Brigade had already demonstrated such readiness.

“We are looking for people to handle this nation for us and we have the youths. Look at them here; they already have the training, the regimental life and are patriotic in nature,” he said.

Gankon also pledged his continuous support to the Kudansa Battalion Council, assuring them of his presence at future programmes. “See me as a partner,” he told the gathering.

Earlier, the Kaduna State President of the Boys Brigade, Dr. Abraham Gagah, explained that the event was organised not only to celebrate Nigeria’s independence but also to remind young people of their role in nation-building. He urged them to remain patriotic and conscious of their contributions to the growth of the country.

The Independence parade featured participation from various schools as well as colourful traditional performances by Gbagyi and Adara cultural troupes.

The event was graced by community leaders, traditional rulers, youth groups, representatives of the state government, officials of Blood Bank, and National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).
